Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in 882 Days
19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's maiden championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.
Success also indicates Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one various events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
His counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.
However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better serve.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the final five games to go ahead.
The pair traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.
He rescued 4 early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to that score to serve for the match.
Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
